Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters 2016 - Plank IV

image

This update from Heavy Seas:

BimageALTIMORE, MD --- The “Uncharted Waters” Series by Heavy Seas Beer will

soon welcome its newest addition, Plank IV. As the fourth offering of the Plank

Series, this limited release will be available from March to April in all 18 states

where Heavy Seas Beer is distributed.

In 2011, the Plank project began. In brief, the goal was to influence the

flavor profile of beer using woods that have rarely, if ever, been used in aging

beer before. Plank I was an “olde style” English Ale aged on kilned Poplar wood

planks. Plank II in 2012 was a German style Doppelbock aged on a combination

of Poplar and Eucalyptus wood. Plank III in 2014 was a Belgian Tripel aged on

Jamaiican Allspice wood.

“A deep garnet hued brew with rich caramel malt flavors dominate the

nose and pallet. Fruity esters of plum, raisin, and dates abound,” says

Christopher Leonard, Heavy Seas Brewmaster and Operations Manager.  “A hint

of roasty chocolate compliments the evident alcohol while vanilla, almond, clove,

and tannic notes from the diverse wood treatment contribute a mysterious

complexity. This iteration of the Plank series is aged on “planks” of retified

Poplar, retified Cherry, Jamaican Allspice, and Cuban Cedar.”

Style: Belgian-style ale aged on four exotic woods

ABV: 11.25%

IBU: 22

Hops: Perle, Hallertau Mittlefrue

Malts: 2-row, Munich, Caramel Munich 60, Caramel Munich 80, Caramel Munich

120, Chocolate

Additions: Dark Candi Sugar, Cane Sugar

UPDATE 15 Feb 2017:

Georgia’s oldest craft brewery, Red Brick Brewing Co., announced today their newest release in the Laughing Skull line – a Belgian-style White Ale.

“White Ale was originally made specifically for our South Korean distributor” said President and Brewmaster Garett Lockhart, “but it was so well received both overseas and at the brewery that we knew we needed to release it domestically. We first started pouring it at the brewery in June of 2016 and it has quickly become a crowd favorite.”

White Ale will join Laughing Skull’s other offerings, Amber Ale and Craft Lager, as a year-long release. 12oz cans will be available on the market at the end of February, and a new Laughing Skull variety 12-pack will follow soon behind. “It’s a really exciting time for us” says Lockhart “we released Craft Lager just last year and now are adding a third offering and variety pack. We are looking forward to releasing more varieties of Laughing Skull in the future and really growing this brand.”

From New Glarus:

A new toy arrived! Anyone guess what it is? We're so excited!!!!! *You guys are smart!
Yes, it's a canning line! . Cans mean better quality control & better for the environment. Only a couple of our beers will have a can option. Even with this fun addition, we're staying only in Wisconsin. Stay tuned!!*

Thanks to Chris for forwarding this correction from New Glarus.  This is a KEG line and they mistakenly said “Can”…so New Glarus is NOT adding Cans!!   Here’s the updated text from New Glarus:

A new toy arrived! Anyone guess what it is? We're so excited!!!!! *My mistake on a previous post everyone. I was SUPER sick and read the memo wrong. This is a keg line! Bright, shiny and new!*
